Softening
The presence of certain metal ions in water causes a variety of problems. These ions interfere with
the action of soaps, lead to build-up of limescale, which can foul plumbing, boilers, heating
equipment.
Water softening is the removal of calcium, magnesium and certain other metal cations in hard water. The result of soft water extends the lifetime of plumbing or heating equipment.
Softening of low TDS (total dry solids) water is commonly done with a Strong Acid Cation (SAC) exchange resin, operating in the sodium form and regenerated with brine.

Advantages of this system are:
- Higher resin efficiency
- Lowest salt usage possible
- Lowest waste volume possible
- Higher linear velocity
- No stagnant liquids
The system can also be configured as:
- Softener
- Nitrate removal device
- Delineralization device
- TOC removal device
