Amino acids: Lysine

L-Lysine is one of the essential amino acids, which cannot be synthesized in the body.

Lysine, an amino acid produced by means of fermentation and used as an animal feed ingredient, is purified by extracting the broth's lysine content with Cation resin and exclusion of other components present in the fermentation broth.

The purification of Lysine with ion exchange was not well known in the industry as it required very large batch columns.

Because of the high value of the product these designs were tolerated.

By using the ION-IX technology for lysine purification, resin inventory and utilities are highly reduced.

The ion exchange basis for the purification of Lysine broth is described by the following two equation:

This process basis exploits the dissociation equilibrium chemistry of lysine in acidic and basic enviroments.
The use of PuriTech's ION-IX continuous countercurrent ion exchanger reduces the resin invetory seriously and the chemicals & rinse water consumption is also reduced.
